Bio
Cathy Angleraud is a multidisciplinary designer and creative director based in Nantes, France.
From 2005 to 2010, she was a member of Liike6, a collective of emerging local artists, craftsmen and designers in Helsinki, Finland. When returning to France, she turned to creative direction in publishing and then specialised in web design.
With over 20 years of experience as a creative director and designer, she decided to step away from the digital world. Fascinated by Aubusson tapestries since childhood, she became interested in textile weaving techniques. As she started to learn hand-tufting, she co-founded Studio Sovaje in 2020, a company specialising in bespoke hand-tufted rugs.
Preferring slow, meticulous craftsmanship to industrial manufacturing, the studio has always promoted a conscious approach to design and encourages its clients to prioritise sustainability over immediacy.
Since then, the studio has worked on numerous projects, including showcases for France Design Week, collaborations with brands and bespoke rugs for interior designers.
At the same time, the studio regularly welcomed interns from design schools and organised hand- tufting workshops for beginners and experienced crafters.
In June 2025, the two co-founders of Studio Sovaje decided to end their collaboration.
Since then, Cathy has been focusing on her artistic career, experimenting with new weaving techniques and always working at the interface of art, design and craftsmanship.
THE PIECE THAT MARKS A TURNING POINT IN MY JOURNEY AS AN ARTIST.
After two years of research and manufacturing, the studio completed a major project in June 2025, a 17 m² hand-tufted tapestry depicting a lush garden, commissioned by Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie - Paris, for the Cité des Enfants.
Today, I’m feeling blessed to have had the opportunity to complete such a large-scale artistic project. I feel really proud, but the whole process took me through highs and lows, moments of doubt, and a lot of pressure. These moments taught me to persevere and rediscover myself. Creating and hand-tufting hours of flowers and grass led me to a turning point: I felt the need to represent my deep connection with nature in my art.

Statement
In 2020, my family and I bought a piece of land in the heart of the Limousin, with barns and a cottage. Since then, we have spent all our vacations there.
This is where I witness nature’s ever-changing beauty, embrace life's simplicity, feel time stop, and find inspiration to create my tapestries.
This is also where I create memories with my family and friends, hiking in the forest, foraging for mushrooms or berries, swimming in the lake, stargazing, relaxing by the fireplace in winter, or laughing around the campfire on summer nights.
This land holds a special place in my heart. Its forests, lakes, peat bogs and rivers have been part of me since childhood, it is where my grandparents were born and raised, where my roots run deep.
I handcraft tapestries that combine hand-tufted and handwoven techniques. I use fine wool mainly sourced from Fonty, a French spinning mill certified as a Living Heritage Company and located in my cottage area. The connection between this land and materials is no coincidence; it is the work itself.
My pieces do not aim to reproduce nature, but to capture a moment spent in its presence and the feelings I experienced. I played with colours, textures and layers to create depth, which highlights the shapes by creating plays of light in the wool.
My work aims to remind us of the beauty and wonders that surround us, that most of our happy moments with our loved ones are deeply connected to nature, and to encourage us to cherish and preserve the environment.
